Chrissy Yurchek & Alex White Engagement

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Today I worked on the proofs from last night’s engagement shoot for Chrissy and Alex. We wandered around the local Decatur area to get some very casual shots. I haven’t laughed that hard in ages, and I’m really looking forward to their upcoming wedding!

Critters abound

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

We are fortunate enough to live in an old home on an old lot with old trees. We think the pecan trees are around 90 years old, and the oaks may be a bit older. These trees are home to a number of adorable creatures, and we frequently sit and watch them during the early evening.

Tonight I decided to try to “shoot” a few of the squirrels and birds that live nearby, and I learned that nature photography is quite a challenge! That being said, please enjoy the following images from our backyard… but no critique on the photography!

Michelle Buck & Matthew Quick Engagement

Sunday afternoon was HOT! I think we skipped spring and went straight into summer.

I met up with Michelle and Matt for their engagement photo shoot at Roswell Mill. Their wedding is coming up near the end of April, so we had a chance to go over final details. It’ll be my first wedding there, and I’m really looking forward to it. They are a great couple and I think we’ll have a blast on the wedding day!

This afternoon I’m processing all the images from the shoot and will get them posted online later today. Here’s one of my faves from the day…

Wine and “Say Cheese!”

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

So I had this brilliant idea that one way to meet some new friends is to get a list of the top photographers in Atlanta (yes, my competition) and invite them over for a drink. Surprisingly enough, the response I got was quite positive! A big Thank You to Rafael (Big Day Photography), Jessica (Sublime Photography), Jody (Jody Burnett Photography), and Steven (Steven Anthony Smith Photography) for sharing your ideas and thoughts.

To those of you that couldn’t make it, well, you missed out! We had a fantastic time, and hopefully you can attend the next one.

Busy busy weekend

Wow, this weekend really flew by! By Sunday evening I had met with 3 of my wedding couples to discuss final plans for their wedding days, and I also spent an afternoon at a photo shoot lending my expertise on posing and working with models.

Allen and I managed to squeeze in a little spring cleaning in the yard as well. Allen mowed the yard while I trimmed plants and hung the birdfeeders. So far, the squirrels haven’t eaten ALL the birdseed, but I give it a week at the most. The birds may starve, but at least we’ll have healthy squirrels! Thanks to my brother and his family for the prettiest hummingbird feeder I’ve ever had. I promise to post a photo as soon as I see one feeding this summer.

My assistant came by this afternoon for a training class. I’ve been teaching her the basics of digital editing: workflow, editing for web/print, retouching, album design, etc. She catches on very quickly, but we still have a lot to do before I’m slammed with work this season. It’s my first full year in Atlanta, and I plan to shoot between 25-30 weddings before the end of ‘07. It’s hard work, but I can’t imagine doing anything else!
