Our house

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

I’ve had several requests to post some photos of the house, so I thought today I’d post the first one. We bought our home in Decatur, GA last summer and I’ve started to learn more about its history.

Our home is located at 103 Kings Highway, in the MAK (McDonough-Adams-Kings Highway) historic neighborhood in Decatur. The MAK district was created in 1907 when John Mason and Poleman Weekes purchased property that was to become the first residential subdivision in Decatur.

Built in 1918, our house was designed by one of Atlanta’s first recognized female architects, Leila Ross Wilburn. Wilburn lived one street over and attended Agnes Scott College just a few blocks away. Incidentally, the college is also where I’ve done some of my research. Ms. Wilburn was employed by Mason and Weekes to design many of the homes for the new subdivision.

Studio Day

Had a fun time today with Sugandha from All Things Creative. She’s an AMAZING designer I met several months ago. She recently launched an updated website and is going national with her fabulous creations!

Today she brought a mixed selection of her invitations and other stationery, and we took photos for the better part of the day. Had a great time, and I look forward to seeing them on the new website. My favorite shot of the day was one of the last ones we took, and I hope it inspires you to have a look at her website: www.all-things-creative.com.

Michelle Buck & Matthew Quick Wedding

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Matt and Michelle were married on April 21st at Roswell Mill. It was a beautiful sunny day, and I had a wonderful time with the bride and groom. My very best wishes to you both!

I’ve posted just a few snaps from Saturday’s wedding. The signature board showcases their favorite photo from the engagement shoot we did at the river below the mill. Enjoy!

I’m happy to report…

…that customer service isn’t dead. So a few days ago I went into downtown Decatur to have a set of duplicate house keys made. One of the things we love about living here is that we have a lot of local shops and restaurants, so I went to Decatur Lock and Key.

The keys were made for me while I chatted with the guy making them. I then found out they don’t take plastic, and I don’t usually carry cash. So he very kindly said not to worry about, just keep the keys and bring the money by the next time I was downtown. Don’t make a special trip. No rush. Just bring it by sometime.

Who does this anymore? How awesome is that? So if you’re a big believer in the importance of customer service like I am, go see the folks at Decatur Lock and Key!

Christie Kenny & Kevin Schneider Engagement

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

Sunday was a miserably cold, damp and VERY windy day. What better time for an engagement shoot outdoors? :-) I met Christie and Kevin at Ravinia Athletic Club for a late afternoon shoot. Poor things were shivering for most of the hour, but I hope you can’t see it in the photos!
