Our house
I’ve had several requests to post some photos of the house, so I thought today I’d post the first one. We bought our home in Decatur, GA last summer and I’ve started to learn more about its history.
Our home is located at 103 Kings Highway, in the MAK (McDonough-Adams-Kings Highway) historic neighborhood in Decatur. The MAK district was created in 1907 when John Mason and Poleman Weekes purchased property that was to become the first residential subdivision in Decatur.
Built in 1918, our house was designed by one of Atlanta’s first recognized female architects, Leila Ross Wilburn. Wilburn lived one street over and attended Agnes Scott College just a few blocks away. Incidentally, the college is also where I’ve done some of my research. Ms. Wilburn was employed by Mason and Weekes to design many of the homes for the new subdivision.

That looks like a beautiful home. Nothing looks classic like that in Florida.
